Hollywood Regency + Rattan = Chic!
I've really been into rattan and faux bamboo lately. I've been noticing influences of Hawaiiana in recent Hollywood Regency decor and it makes me SO happy! The kitschy Hawaiiana has been around for a while, but I'm interested in more sophisticated accents that imply the tropics, rather than full-on Tikki .
Michael inherited a vintage rattan set like the ones above. The couch has a perfect pretzel shape and I cant wait to use them in the living room. Using rattan can be tricky, but if it's used sparingly, and in contrast to other more "refined" pieces (glass and mirrored surfaces come to mind) it can be incredibly chic! The images above are from a great book called "Rattan Furniture: Tropical Furniture Throughout the House" by Harvey Swartz. This a fantastic book that chronicles the rise of rattan furniture in the United States from the early 1930's to the present. Check it out!
