What is Social Bookmarking?

worth the whisk

There's lots of chatter on the internets about social bookmarking. What the heck is it, right? I know. That's how I felt when I first started blogging. Now that the blog is a whole 3 months old, I don't know what I would do without my social bookmarks! So back to the question, what is it? How do they work? Why should you care?

More on social bookmarking after the jump...

Social bookmarking sites like, digg, stumble upon, and delicious function like your browser's bookmark, only that with social bookmarking, you have access to your bookmarked sites on ANY computer. It works like regular old browser bookmarks work. You cruise a blog, or web site...you like what you see...you "bookmark" it with a nifty tool-bar (provided by whichever site you're using)...and that's it!

The beauty of it is that again, you have access to them on any computer, but the main feature that I love is that you create a public profile that stores all of your bookmarked sites...that way, anyone can look at what you've saved, and you can look at other people's bookmarks...which means you can find lots of cool sites, really fast!

See that button that says "bookmark" down on the left hand corner of all of my posts? If you like any of my posts and want to save them, just click that button and choose which site to open an account with. I personally use delicious and stumble the most, but check them all out and see which one fits you the best!
