I visited my friend Jenna in NJ last week. Having just received her bi-weekly delivery of organic/locally grown vegetables, we decided to eat in, rather than dine out. She's the host of an organic vegetable co-op in her neighborhood where neighbors pick up bins of fresh produce from her house! What a great idea, right?!
More on how the NJ co-op works, and links to L.A based deliveries after the jump...
Here's how it works: Every two weeks, Jenna gets a huge delivery of a variety of seasonal produce. She separates the produce into bins, and registered participants simply pick up their bins from her backyard! Jenna gets a discount for being the host, and organizing the bins, which she says really isn't a lot of work. Jenna is part of the Purple Dragon Co-op based in NJ.
As soon as I returned to L.A. I started researching to find a similar co-op but I wasn't able to find an exact program. Instead, I found a number of organic produce delivery companies that utilize locally grown produce as often as possible. Each service varies in price and some have more options for customizing orders and others also offer organic dairy and grocery products! Check them out and see which one fits for you!
