Weekends are for amateurs: Hump Day @ Tiki Ti

By Simone

Danny wanted to check out the Tiki Ti, he had never been there. Our friend Kevin mentioned that on Wednesdays the house special "Ray's Mistake" - a fruity mystery rum drink - is 50 % off! A STEAL at $4.50. One really couldn't hope for more on a Wednesday night - a timeless bar filled with colorful cocktails and jolly patrons at half the price! There is even more good news - the Tiki Ti has new hours, 4pm - 2am Wednesday through Sunday.. Good times, yeah!

Weekends are for Amateurs: Silver Platter

Last night Danny, Maren and I checked out the Silver Platter. The Silver Platter is a tranny dive bar in MacArthur Park, on the corner of 7th and Coronado. The best part about this place is the fabulous decor featuring Marilyn Monroe......There was a hipster party at the bar last night.... every Tuesday, I am told... The place was packed with regulars doing their thing, some hipsters, and possibly a frat boy or two... it was a fun mixed up scene!
But anyway, the other best part about the place is the wine list..... it's great because it's a fake! they don't have ANY of the wines listed! i ordered the Gruner Veltliner (one of my fav's), and the bartender poured me a glass of Charles Shaw!! so i would say this place is pretty rad, but it's definitely not a wine bar....... although i do know they have the bubbly...! Party time.

Weekends Are For Amateurs - El Prado Bar, Echo Park

The OTHAOAR team likes to booze it up every once in a while. What we don't like are loud, crowded bars. Early Thursday evenings are perfect times for barflies like ourselves. When Simone and I first moved to the city we hatched a plan to hit one new bar a week. It was our own way of getting to know Los Angeles. Unfortunately, our plan only lasted about a week.

Now that our blog is us up and running, we decided to revive our plan. Our first hit was El Prado, in Echo Park. We hands-down loved this bar! They specialize in micro-brewed beers, and let me tell you, they were delicious! Imagine walking in to a dark, quiet bar...Bob Dylan playing on a small record player...friendly bartenders...wood paneled walls...that is exactly what El Prado is like! Don't bother going on the weekends though, although they've only been open for a month, the weekends are filled to the rim with eager beer drinkers. Definitely not our scene. Weekends are totally for amateurs!
